20 Things Wisconsin-ites Must Explain to Out-of-towners

America's REAL Dairyland, where spotted cows aren't just on the farm. We drink from bubblers, Friday's are for fish frys and other days are for brats and squeaky curds.

Growing up in Madison, Wisconsin, I can tell you this list is spot on. There could be a 21st on this list but I'm not allowed to explain Cow-tipping to you or I will never be allowed back in the state.

1. 40° F weather is perfectly acceptable shorts weather.

2. Cheese curds are a Wisconsin delicacy.

Golden-brown, deep-fried, melt-in-your-mouth cheese curds made fresh in Wisconsin.  Add these babies to your culinary bucket list. You’re welcome.

3. And there are fortunately TWO different kinds of them.

Fried ones and squeaky ones! You can’t get our fresh, unprocessed baby cheddar bites anywhere else. Best when under 12 hours old. And the squeakier they are against your teeth, the better they’ll taste.

4. We’re the home of the world’s largest music festival.

5. And speaking of Milwaukee, you’re saying it wrong.

It’s “Mah-WAU-kee.”

6. But it’s okay, eventually you’ll get our city names right.

Ashwaubenon. Oconomowoc. Weyauwega. The struggle is real.

7. Home to America’s largest water park.

With 51 different slides and various other rides and attractions, you can’t get any better than Noah’s Ark Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells

8. Snow doesn’t cancel anything.

If we canceled school every time it snowed, no one would ever graduate.

9. We drink from bubblers.

Ask for a water fountain, and we’ll point you toward the decorative kind you find in parks or gardens.

10. Fridays are reserved for fish fries.

A basket of deep fried cod, creamy coleslaw and fries are the required Friday menu. Even better if it's all you can eat.

Brats vs. hot dogs... what you should know about Pabst Blue Ribbon beer you misinformed Hipsters... the social currency that is a 'wisconsin lake house'... and the other spotted cow. Those make up the rest of the 20 list.
