When I was in grade school, there were two things I distinctly remember doing that I was really excited about- in my 5th grade geography class I got my very first pen pal and just for fun, my homeroom teacher had us put a message in a balloon that was released behind the school; in hopes that someone would find it and contact us. It was the '80s so stuff that like was still considered to be pretty safe.

Another boy, who just happened to be the same age as I was when I sent that balloon into the unknown, penned a similar letter but put his message in a bottle. That was back in 1988 and 28 years later, someone found that letter.

5-year-old Ryder Goggin was walking on the beach with his mom when he found what he was hoping to be treasure; when he opened up the bottle, he found this letter.

The only problem is that the number on the letter is disconnected, so Ryder's mom shared photos on her Facebook page along with the hashtag #FindChris and it worked; they found him. But it wasn't a complete happy ending. Someone was able to track down Chris' mom and sadly, the two are estranged. She's hoping that this message in the bottle could help them reconnect; she said it would be better than winning the lottery.
