JCPenney has officially released a list of 138 stores that will begin the process of closing next month, including 7 stores in Illinois.

Whenever I read stories about store closing, I feel so bad for the employees, but I understand why this is happening.

With the world connected by the Internet, the need to physically go to a store to pick up an outfit or a gift just isn't as big as it used to be.

JCPenney, hoping to keep their business afloat has deemed it necessary to close 138 storefronts this year and the official list of stores has just been announced.

Seven of the locations are in Illinois, though it looks like we are one of the lucky towns that will be able to keep our JCP, at least for now.

The Illinois stores that will close beginning in April are:

  • Eastland Mall, Bloomington
  • Fulton Square, Canton
  • Village Square Mall, Effingham
  • Freestanding store, Macomb
  • Peru Mall, Peru
  • Northland Mall, Sterling
  • Centerpointe of Woodridge, Woodridge

All of the details regarding the store closings can be found in this press release.
