7 Tips for Saving Money at Your Rockford Starbucks

In case you missed it, July 12th, Rockford area Starbucks raised prices on some of your favorite drinks by as much as 30 cents. Oh, you didn't notice? Yeeeah, probably because the general consensus is that their coffee is already extremely pricey; yet you still go back at least once or twice a week because it really is just a "treat" and not a daily habit.

If it is a daily habit, you may want to take note of these 7 tips from Thrillist that will help you save money the next time you visit the coffee giant.

Make Your Own Latte

Bet you didn't know you could make your own latte; you'll raise some eyebrows for sure but you'll lower the cost by half if you do. Here's the secret: just order a double or triple shot of espresso; then add milk from the condiment bar.

Go Short

News Flash: The smallest cup at Starbucks is NOT the tall; there's actually a smaller option that's not on the menu. Sneaky, sneaky. It's called "the short;" it's 8 ounces and it's perfect if you just need a little pick me up in the morning. Not great for cappuccinos but you should get the same amount of espresso as you would in a tall, but for less. Winning.

Instead of getting four cups of coffee and walking out with one of those trays that you know you'll probably drop before you get to the car, then get a full french press; it's the same amount of coffee for up to half the price.

You're already a star, but if you make frequent stops at Starbucks then you have to sign up for their rewards program. Not only do you get a free coffee on your birthday, but  you're the first to know about promotions, get free in-store refills and exclusive coupons.

New Way to Buy Chai

Sick of summer? Already wishing for falling temperatures this fall with your cozy sweaters, Ugg boots and cuddle time with your boo? Yeah, me too, and if Chai lattes are your go to in the fall and winter months, skip the chai latte and order hot water or milk and a chai tea packet. It probably won't taste as good but having the barista froth your milk might help.

Bring Your Own Cup

While you're waiting for your coffee at a Starbucks store, have you ever looked at their merch and thought to yourself, "oooh, I really like that Starbucks thermos, I should get one;" but never do because you tell yourself you'll ask for one at Christmas? Well stop, and just buy it and bring it in every time you stop in for a cup of joe; you save ten cents every time you do. It doesn't seem like much but it adds up over time.
