May is officially here, which means I can now wear whatever I want.

At the end of March, I decided that I would spend the entire month of April wearing clothes and shoes that just sit in the closet for most of the year.

Mostly dresses and high heels, I love most of these clothes, but don't have a reason to wear them. Sure I could wear them all the time to work, but in radio, dresses and heels are not all the common. But, I said I'd do it and I did.

Here are the 8 things I learned from my April Closet Challenge:

  1. Dressing up can make you feel awesome. If the clothes fit really well and you're in a good mood. Wearing heels and a dress when you feel good about yourself makes you feel ten times more amazing. On the flip side...
  2. Dressing up can make you feel absolutely terrible... when you feel like garbage. There's a reason why we wear sweatpants when we're sick or exhausted. Having to put fancy clothes on when I felt like crap made me feel worse.
  3. Life is easier when you know what you're wearing before you go to bed. This is an easy notion, but definitely one I don't follow enough. I saved time every morning when I already knew what I was going to wear that day.
  4. People treat you differently based on what you're wearing. Whether people know why you're dressed differently or not, you will get extra stares. Some of them good, some of them not so much... there's a reason why you don't wear tight dresses to work when you're shaped like a Kardashian.
  5. Suddenly your wardrobe is a conversation ice breaker. In our work kitchen, by the copier and out at bars, my clothing challenge became small talk with people I usually didn't chat with.
  6. Underwear lines. They are a bigger challenge in a dress than in yoga pants.
  7. Driving in heels will never be a thing I'm ok with. I've tried to drive in heels before, but it was not happening this past month. Maybe it's because the heels I was wearing were sky high or because my commute is super long, but I needed an extra pair of driving shoes with me every day I wore heels.
  8. Taking mirror selfies can be addicting. I felt both happy and sad this morning when I didn't take a mirror selfie before I left for work to post to Instagram. This could be because I love my giant mirror. Maybe once a week mirror selfies is good for your soul.
