• A verdict has been reached in a Rockford murder trial. A jury has found 24-year-old Lorenzo Kent Jr. guilty of first degree murder. Kent shot and killed 30-year-old Donmarquis Jackson on the city’s south side back in May 2013. He could face up to life in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for June 3.
  • Officials are on the search for a driver who fled the scene after hitting and killing two young men on motorcycles. They have found a broken fog lamp which belongs to a 2001 or 2003 model of an Infiniti QX4.  This could be the key to finding the suspect who struck and killed 24-year-old Mitchell Vance and 18-year-old Devin Julius. The incident happened Sunday night in Janesville on U.S. 14
  • The name of the teen that was shot and killed Monday on Rockford’s north side has been released. Officials say 18-year-old Douglas Johnson has been identified as the victim. He died at a local hospital Monday afternoon after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities are still on the lookout for a possible suspect listed as a black male with a light complexion in his late teens or early twenties. He’s around 5’11, 160 pounds and was last seen running north on Darwood.
  • The name of the woman who was pulled from the Kishwaukee River has been released. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 46-year-old Beverly Gritzmaker of Rockford. She was found by a kayaker Sunday afternoon in the Kishwaukee Gorge Forest Preserve. Authorities have confirmed they are investigating her death as a homicide. So far, police have no one in custody.
  • A Rockford man has been shot while checking on his rental property. It happened Monday night in the 3100 block of 8th Street. When he arrived to the property, the victim noticed a garage door was open. When he went inside to check it out, the suspect allegedly hit him in the head and shot him once in the shoulder. Officials say once the victim regained consciousness, he drove himself home and called the police. He never saw the suspect, however, and no arrests have been made.
  • A Roscoe chemical scare this morning caused traffic to reroute. It happened near Chicory Ridge and Roscoe Road when a truck carrying fertilizer tipped over. Roscoe Police say the truck was carrying a tank for anhydrous ammonia. Fortunately, the tank was empty.
  • Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says all of the city's public school classrooms should be air conditioned within five years. Air conditioning was installed at 70 schools last year but more than 200 still don't have it. The work will start this summer.
  • Oak Brook-based McDonald's has posted disappointing results for the first quarter. Profit and revenue at the world's biggest hamburger chain came in below Wall Street expectations for the January-to-March period as customer traffic declined. The company blames the rough winter and what it calls "challenging industry dynamics."
