The rumor has been going around for a few weeks that by changing the date on your iOS would do it and now Apple has confirmed it.

If you change the date to January 1, 1970 on your iPhone you would render it useless, essentially bricking your device.

Apple released a statement on Sunday through their website outlining the glitch.

"Manually changing the date to May 1970 or earlier can prevent your iOS device from turning on after a restart."

The statement reads that they will also release a software update in the future to prevent this from happening to future devices.

Two things, why would anyone change the date of their phone from the current actual date to something other than that?

Second, can you imagine the devious sorts of people that could grab your phone and change the date to January 1, 1970?

This is as good a time as any to remind you to always have your phone locked up.
