Sadly, scams are a part of our everyday life these days. Anyone can fall victim to them, and a new batch of scams are making the rounds this holiday season, and smartphone shoppers are particularly at risk this year.

Here's how the newest online shopping scam works according to WGN TV;

Cybercriminals create fake mobile apps and landing pages with realistic branding, especially around major holidays and events ... They want to convince consumers to download bad apps or visit bogus sites and ultimately “phish” for sensitive data.

WGN reports that one of these types of scams is currently making rounds on the WhatsApp messaging platform, and had gotten so bad that Amazon's Customer Service tweeted about it:

"Mobile browsers have a much shorter address field, and consumers may not see the full URL on their phone. This makes it harder to spot a scam" according to WGN.

To keep yourself safe from holiday shopping scams experts say to be very cautious about what apps you are downloading, and if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is...just let it go.
