Black Twitter Slams Dove for Their ‘Racist’ Facebook Ad [PHOTO]
Soap company Dove is in a PR crisis after posting a racially insensitive Facebook ad that has since been deleted. Makeup artist Naomi Leann Blake saw the ad and voiced her contempt for the imagery. The ad has since gone viral on social media.
The advertisement (see above) features a black woman wearing a brown shirt removing her top to reveal a white woman in a lighter shirt. There’s another image which shows a white woman removing her shirt to show a woman of Asian descent.
On Saturday (Oct. 7), Dove issued a statement apologizing for the advertisement. “An image we recently posted on Facebook missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully. We deeply regret the offense it caused,” reads the tweet.

But it was too late. People on Twitter slammed Dove for being completely tone-deaf when it comes to representing women of color. Not only that, this is the second time Dove has been called out for their racially insensitive ad.
The first time was in 2011, when Dove posted an advertisement that features a black woman that seemingly turns into a Latino woman then into a white woman with the panels reading above “Before” and “After.” Many critics felt that the ad communicated that if you have dark skin before you use their soap, you’ll have pale skin afterward.
As for Dove’s latest tone-deaf ad, folks on Twitter lambasted the soap company on their timelines.
“Okay, Dove…One racist ad makes you suspect. Two racist ads makes you kinda guilty,” tweeted Keith Boykin.
Filmmaker Ava DuVernay wrote, “You can do better than ‘missed the mark.’ Flip + diminishing. Deepens your offense. You do good work. Have been for years. Do better here.”
