Byron Girl Takes First Place In Statewide Photo Contest

A photography contest that highlights Illinois agriculture called the Cream of the Crop just announced the winners.

There are three different age groups for the competition, ages 8-10, 11-14 and 15-18.

Most of the winners came from places outside of the Rockford area. Taylorville, Hoffman, Oswego, Wapella, Troy, and Raleigh are all represented.

Just outside of Rockford, Alexandria Cassens from Byron won the first place prize in the ages 11-14 group with her photo called "Ag in the Air."

Eyewitness News said Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs hosted a reception at the Illinois State Fair today to honor Cassens along with the other first-place winners.
