Chicago’s Art Institute Makes History With Donations

Chicago's Art Institute is dreaming up big plans for the museum after making history this week upon receiving a couple of large donations to help fund them.

NBC Chicago shares that the institute "received two donations totaling $70 million" on Tuesday.

One donation of $50 million came from a " the museum trustee Janet Duchossois and her husband." It's reported to be the largest donation the Art Institute has ever received in history.

The $50 million donation is listed as unrestricted. That means the museum can use the money for whatever they see fit to put it toward.

The other donation of $20 million dollars came from "board chairman Robert Levy and his wife". This donation has been designated "to be used for operations and acquisitions."

"President James Rondeau says there are no specific, immediate plans for the new money." He says though, that by having this monetary gift allows "us to now start to conceive what our future might look like, rather than specifically funding an existing plan."

I get that. Instead of maintaining what they currently have, the museum can now draw up plans for new exhibits and features to bring in more people to enjoy the work of so many artists past and present.

Hmmm, I just wonder what they will come up with all that money?

I think making exhibits or features to expose those who don't know or understand art would be great idea.

I can't wait to see what develops I love going to the Art Institute. My favorite area is the impressionism area with paintings from Monet, Van Gogh (before he went abstract), Seraut, Manet, the list goes on and on.
