As a Vikings fan, I wouldn't normally condone this and my state would probably 86 me if they heard me say this out loud, but this year would be the best year to jump on the Green Bay Packer bandwagon, and I think they'd be happy to have us considering that one of our own is officially part of the team.

For current and former students and parents of Boylan High School, even if they're Bears fans, they've already been sporting the green and gold so it won't be anything new when they're wearing Dean Lowry's Packer jersey.

Lowry, a former football star at Boylan, was drafted to the Packers with the 137th pick in the 4th round and he's expected to be an important piece of the team's defensive line remodel.

He knows he has some big shoes to fill but I'm confident he's got this all under control; he knows what kind of player he is and after thriving as a five-technique defensive tackle with Northwestern, he'll do more than fine as a three-technique with the Pack.

After being drafted, Lowry tells the Rockford Register Star, "It's surreal,The Packers are a first-class organization. They are always one of the best teams in the league and they are known for having players who develop well and are great defensive players. That bodes well for me. They know how to identify talent. To be identified by them is pretty cool."

It sure is. Congratulations, Dean; best of luck in the upcoming season. You are truly an inspiration for other boys and girls in the Rockford area and are living proof that dreams do come true.
