If you want to lose weight using an app or an online weight management program, don't be a wallflower.

According to a new study, you can 'friend' your way thin. The study showed that dieters who logged in regularly, recorded their weigh-ins and 'friended' other members online lost more than eight percent of their body weight in six months; compared to five percent who didn't connect with others.

Going to on site meetings or attending a group fitness class at the gym (which has been the most effective for me) isn't always practical. When you're unable to surround yourself with with an actual group of like minded people, who share a common goal, it's beneficial to connect with others who are on the same weight loss journey as you.

Luckily, there's  no need to go to meetings or pay for expensive gym memberships;  you just need to find the app that's right for you.

Techradar released a list of the seven best diet apps, with these being in the top three:

1. MyFitnessPal

Free

I've heard great things about this app, even Steve Shannon uses it. When you add your personal stats (height, age, sex, weight, target weight and so on) the app will work out how many calories you can consume each day to hit your target in the time frame you specify.
