There is no other way for Illinois to celebrate dads than by sharing the odd, head-scratching, and funny things dads always say.

Father's Advice

For many, Dad was the first person to give unsolicited advice. Dads never miss an opportunity to give out some small piece of wisdom, whether you want to hear it or not.

Some Dads didn't even care if the 'advice' was helpful, they were just words to throw out there. There are times, as you'll see on this list, the things that came out of his mouth didn't even make any sense. You'd just be left there scratching your head wondering why he said anything.

What is a Dad-ism?

Urban Dictionary defines it as:

The funny/drunken things your dad might say. Generally nonsensical.

This one sure is true, isn't it?

Agreed!

This next Dad used a lot of words but he makes an excellent point.

Here comes the first head-scratcher, for me at least. What does this mean?

Is he talking about wearing leather, the cow tastes good so that means it's good enough to wear, is that what he means?

If anyone can explain this next Dad-ism to me I would very much appreciate it.

So many different ways to tell someone to stay in their own lane. I wish this advice was repeated in homes more often.
