The Rockford Park District needs to cut their budget, that's an unavoidable fact, but developing a 5 year Master Plan that is totally focused on the Rockford community's wants and needs is their upmost priority.

The RPD has already held several community input sessions for residents to voice their opinions, and they are being as open as possible about what the park district's future may hold (like the selling off Magic Waters and the district's golf courses).

Today, however, the Rockford Park District is taking things a step further by giving the public a behind the scenes look at several of their facilities and programs on Facebook and Instagram.

They've got a full tour stop scheduled, and they will be providing residents with all kinds of vital info about the Park District's operations so we can all make educated opinions about what matters most to us.

The tour schedule is:

6:00 a.m. - Sinnissippi Golf Course, 1401 N 2nd St, Rockford

8:00 a.m. - Alpine Meadows Playground, 4880 Marjoram Ct., Rockford

9:30 a.m. - Rockford Bank & Trust Pavilion, 1902 Reid Farm Road, Rockford

11:30 a.m. - Mercyhealth Sportscore Two (new turf fields) at Sideline Grill, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park (The community is welcome to join us! Lino's Pizza and Italian Restaurant will be on site to provide free slices of pizza (while supplies last) and Sideline Grill will provide free ice cream and shaved ice samples!)

1:30 p.m. - Riverview Ice House, 324 N. Madison Street, Rockford

4:00 p.m. - Trolley Car 36 (at City Market), West Street & Market Street, Rockford

6:00 p.m. - West Rock Wake Park inside Levings Park, 1420 S. Pierpont Ave., Rockford

Y'all, the RPD is giving us every chance they can think of to voice our needs, wants and opinions. If you're upset about the possibility of losing district owned golf courses, or you think they are wasting money on under-utilized parks of facilities, TELL THEM!

Now, more than ever, our opinions matter, so be sure to make them known!

Don't worry, I'm sure the Rockford Park District knows that people become a whole lot braver with voicing their opinions when they are hiding behind a keyboard, so they are ready for it. Be brutally honest with your comments about what you think needs to be added, changed or closed...just do it in the nicest way possible, pretty please. 😉
