Waking up to news that one of Rockford's finest was killed in the line of duty Sunday morning is something I never want to do again. Upon reading the news, I felt a mixture of emotions that are still swirling in my brain and heart: fear, devastation, sorrow, frustration, but mostly anger.

I am just so mad that violence like this keeps plaguing Rockford, and that a 30-year-old man at the start of his career was killed while trying to keep us all safe. It sickens me that no matter how much this community and our leaders try to combat this crime, it just keeps happening. For the first time in my life I am actually thinking of moving my family out of this city, and that REALLY pisses me off. Basically, my heart hurts for Rockford, for the family of Officer Jaimie Cox, for the Rockford Police Department. I just wish all this madness would stop.

I never met Officer Jaimie Cox, but I feel consumed with the need to do something, anything, to honor him. If you feel the same, buy one of these Thin Blue Line bracelets.

The Give Blue campaign was started in 2016, and was started to "support the families behind the brave men and women that gave their life in the line of duty".

These bracelets cost $5 each and "100% of the profits from this fundraiser will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. If elected, the family may have the funds donated to a selected 501(c)(3) non-profit".

This is a fundraiser to honor the memory of Rockford Police Officer Jaimie Cox. Wearing this bracelet is just a small way to show we will never forget him, or his bravery. May he rest in peace.
