You may soon be able to get married and have your wedding reception at the famed Groundhog Day house in Woodstock, if approved by the Woodstock City Council.

Cherry Tree Inn (AKA the Groundhog Day home) at 344 Fremont St might soon be available for hosting larger weddings, parties, showers, baby showers and luncheons, if the current owners of the property get approval for their plan to substantially increase the number of people allowed to occupy the home.

However, there is a problem, most of the neighbors who live near by the property are not happy about the plan. Area residents packed the Woodstock City Council Meeting last night to voice their opposition. Neighbors complained  that the proposal would  increase neighborhood traffic. Also neighbors expressed concern about more litter, noise and smoke.

According to a report in the Northwest Herald, the house, since it opened in September is allowed, by special permit to hold smaller events of no more than 25 people. The current owners want to allow as many as 160 people on the property for large events such as outdoor weddings.

The Woodstock City Council has not made a final decision, yet, so if you are making wedding plans, you might want to consider an alternate venue, for now.

Just wondering, if you get married at the Groundhog Day house, does that mean you have to get married again, and again, and again?
