100 years ago today, Wrigley Field opened its doors. It wasn’t called Wrigley Field then, it was known as Weeghman Park, and little did they know, “The Friendly Confines” would become one of the most beautiful places in America.

I grew up a Cub fan, born and raised on the North Side of Chicago, I had no choice. When I was a young child I lived in a garden apartment on Addison near Wrigley Field, so a trip to the ballpark was a usual occurrence.

As a little kid, I was a big Bill Buckner fan, and I remember sitting in the bleachers and cheering for my favorite player. After he left, I was disappointed but it never stopped me from coming to Wrigley Field for a game.

Wrigley Field is more than your favorite team or ballplayer, more than championships, (and as long suffering Cubs fans, we all know about that) it’s about the long lasting memories that the stadium produces.

Much like my parents did with me, my wife and I took our oldest son to a game when he was less than a year old. It was a cold day, but we managed to get a picture taken of us at the corner of Clark and Addison. Today, I’m making the pilgrimage again to Wrigley to celebrate, create some new memories, and hopefully see a Cub win.

Happy 100th Birthday Wrigley Field, here’s to 100 more!
