Every parent knows, and it doesn't matter how old your child is, that kids can be cruel. And it doesn't make any sense trying to wrap our brains around it because everyone has a different explanation as to why kids choose to hurt one another; they don't know any better, they don't understand that words can be hurtful and often times, they simply don't take the time the time to get to know someone and make friends. It's easy to pass judgement so quickly, heck, we even do it as adults.

That's why, when we got this story, I knew it had to be shared. It's very rare these days to see kids be nice to one another and go out of their way to show them that they're valued and loved.

Listener Carmela shared the story on her Facebook page:

I received an update from Carmela and she was able to find the boy who did this for Xavier. She writes:

"Hello there my name is Carmela Sigala I am emailing you the story I messaged you on Facebook. First off I wanted to tell you about my son Xavier he has ADHD and Aspberger Syndrome a higher form of Autism. He is a 7th grader at Harlem Jr. High. It's tough for Xavier to make friends he mostly stays by himself but he is a brilliant kid with a huge heart. Last month a boy came up to my son and gave him a new book bag and new shoes. He told Xavier that he noticed his bag was ripped and felt compelled to help him. It took a few weeks for me to get the name of this boy but with Xavier's reading teacher I was able to get it. His name is Trevor. It's not everyday that children are nice to each other let alone buying things for another child whom just the kindness of his heart wanted to do something nice for Xavier. I wanted to do something for Trevor to show our appreciation for being a model student. Total opposite of bullying being a role model that I feel should be recognized. Can you please help me give this child recognition that he deserves."

I couldn't think of a better way to recognize Trevor than to share this story and hopefully we'll be able to do more.

Thank you, Trevor, for being so kind; you're parents raised a fine young man; others should take notice because this is how we should all treat one another.
