With cable and satellite subscription costs out of control, 'cord cutting' is becoming quite popular. HBO's standalone streaming service will be called HBO Now and only $15.

We knew this was coming in 2015 but we didn't know exactly when. It appears that HBO along with Apple as it's launch partner will offer this service by April, just in time for the next season of Game of Thrones.

In October, the Wall Street Journal reported that the HBO Now service would not be cheaper that $15, which is about the same cost to subscribe through cable or satellite.

According to Huffington Post, Showtime has also announced plans to offer a standalone streaming service, and NBC will later this year launch a streaming service focused on comedy.
