As someone who grew up in Florida, a capital punishment state, I have always been on the fence with the death penalty. Whether it's moral or not has never crossed my mind. Is it constitutional? That's where I have a hard time saying yes.

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. These are guaranteed to every American. So, wouldn't the death penalty be a direct violation of our right to life?

Then again, when someone uses a car to drive over a crowd of people. I personally believe they should be put down. For good!

Illinois isn't Florida, which is why I am very surprised to hear that Governor Bruce Rauner is looking to reinstate the death penalty here.

MyStateline.com reported that, "On Monday, Governor Bruce Rauner has asked the Illinois General Assembly to reinstate the death penalty for mass murderers and those who kill law enforcement officers."

Again, I won't lose a minute of sleep if cop killers and mass murderers get the needle. Personally, I think child sex offenders should be added to this list, but that's just me. Do we actually have the right to do it?

Few crimes are more heinous than purposeful killings of children and peacekeepers,” Rauner said in a statement. “We didn’t propose the death penalty lightly. We had to balance the need for safety and, in the end, we wanted to make it abundantly clear we have no tolerance for such atrocities in Illinois.”

What are your thoughts? Is this move justified or are we crossing a line that can't be undone?
