An Illinois Representative wants the state to set a minimum age for kids to play tackle football.

A hearing date has been set in the Illinois House today for the Mental Health Committee to "consider Rep. Carol Sente's plan at the state Capitol." (ABC7)

Representative Sente wants the minimum age limit set at 12 years old to eliminate head trauma at an early age.

"Repeated blows to the head have been linked to the degenerative brain condition chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)."

CTE symptoms from the repeated head trauma shows up in the forms of "memory loss, violent moods and other cognitive problems." It is often found in those that were "football players, combat veterans and others who have sustained ongoing head trauma."

Her quest is to eliminate this from happening at an early age.

I can see the need for this. If I had kids I wouldn't want them to be exposed to this sort of trauma  before they were fully developed.

What do you think? Should there be a minimum? Is this a good idea if it passes?
