Is a New Restaurant Coming from the Owner of Maria’s?

Sometimes you can believe what you read on Facebook. Thanks to some investigative driving from Rockford Resgister Star's Chuck Sweeney.

Let me start by saying what a wonderful start to the day this has been. Never before have I  had such vivid daydreams of a big steak, Shrimp de Jonghe, a basket of warm bread and an old-fashioned. I miss Maria's.

Reading Chuck Sweeney's column in this morning's (5/17) Rockford Register Star was all the confirmation I needed that Joe Cason, owner of Maria's (corner of Cunningham and Corbin) until it closed in 2013, will be opening a new place in the near future.

As for that investigative driving, it was Chuck's curiosity that put him in the car for a quick drive to Riverside and East Drive to see if the door sign he'd heard about was for real.

Right there next to that green arrow above is Mr. J's. Maybe you remember it when it was called Cannova's? That building is where Chuck Sweeney saw this sign in the door.
