One of my favorite holiday traditions is packing the fam into our van, armed with hot chocolate and plenty of holiday tunes, and taking a long drive looking at Christmas lights in Rockford.

We may extend our light drive through the communities surrounding Rockford, but we've never ventured to Aurora, Illinois to see their Festival of Lights, but I'm adding it to this year's itinerary for sure!

Aurora's Festival of Lights begins Friday, November 23, 2018, at Phillips Park located at 1000 Ray Moses Dr., and it's completely free to attend.

The Festival of Lights will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 5 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through December 26.

Over 25,000 vehicles drove through the display last year and onlyinyourstate.com says it's the "largest holiday lights display in northern Illinois".

If you go this weekend, better plan on getting there early armed with lots of hot chocolate to enjoy.
