Less than a year after they arrived, LimeBikes are leaving Rockford.

It was reported Thursday that LimeBikes are discontinuing their services in the Forest City.

A city administrator is saying it is leaving because the company will be pulling away from pedal bikes as their corporate model.

LimeBikes made their debut in Rockford back in April of 2018, with more than 500 bikes being available for rent in Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Belvidere, along with the Rockford Park District.

Rockford isn't the only city losing the bike rental services. LimeBike has also pulled out of several other U.S. states, including California and Michigan.

City officials are already looking for a LimeBike replacement.

They have reached out to other bike-sharing companies, leaning more toward a scooter model, but other options will be considered too.
