For the last two days all I've heard people talk about is the most recent crime spree across Rockford; 21 robberies since Sunday and the suspects are still on the loose. It's scary and people should be talking about it, we all have reason to be concerned and hopefully the suspects will be caught soon and brought to justice.

In the meantime, though, it's nice to find stories from our community that remind us that there's still good in this world and there are people who care about our safety and well being.

On Tuesday, an elderly couple from Machesney Park got some unexpected help from local firefighters. Barb was cooking dinner for her husband, Bob, when she started to feel sick.  She decided to call 911. First responders arrived a short time later and recommended she go to the hospital, but she didn't want to leave Bob, who's disabled and in a wheel chair.  Barb was obviously concerned because he hadn't eaten dinner and still needed to take his medication. That's when firefighter, Matthew Hehn, stepped in, along with two of his co-workers and finished making dinner for Bob.

This isn't the first time Matthew Hehn has done something incredible for North Park Fire. On Thanksgiving, Hehn responded to a routine medical call with a confused elderly gentleman and his mother. They were unable to celebrate Thanksgiving because the gentleman was sick, they had no turkey, stuffing, or pie; so Matt and his girlfriend brought the pair Thanksgiving leftovers and a new smoke detector.

Once again, nice job, Matt.
