‘Love’ Trailer: Judd Apatow and Gillian Jacobs’ Netflix Comedy Wants You to Know Love Is a Lie

The first full trailer for Judd Apatow’s new Netflix comedy series has arrived, bracing us for the reality that relationships are — to quote co-star Paul Rust — “f—ing bulls—.” I mean, he’s not totally wrong. Rust, who also wrote Pee-wee’s Big Holiday for Netflix, co-stars with Gillian Jacobs in the new dark comedy about a pair of misfits with a cynical view on romance who begin to fall for one another despite their misgivings.

Judging by the wonderful new trailer and the official synopsis, Love sounds like it would pair exceptionally well with FX’s You’re the Worst, another exceedingly honest show about the difficulties of dating and commitment in the modern world.

Jacobs leaves her more accessible Community character behind for the sharp new series, though if you’re familiar with her guest arc on HBO’s Girls, you’ll hardly be surprised at her edgier side here. So reads the official synopsis for Love, which is created, written and executive produced by Apatow with Rust and Lesley Arfin (Brooklyn Nine-Nine):

Love follows nice guy Gus (Rust) and brazen wild-child Mickey (Gillian Jacobs) as they navigate the exhilarations and humiliations of intimacy, commitment, love and other things they were hoping to avoid.  Love is an unflinching, hilarious and excruciatingly honest take on modern relationships.

Love will debut on Netflix on February 19 — and the week after all the lovey-dovey-cutesy crap of Valentine’s Day seems like an appropriate time to dive in to this exciting new series.
