The sound of screeching tires on the pavement, blasting horns, the crunch of two car bumpers colliding and blaring emergency sirens; that's what you hear day in and day out when you live near the intersection of Old Harlem Road and Victory in Machesney Park. I know this because I can see the intersection from my front yard and I've been witness to several accidents that have happened there; including one fatally.

I've often said, while I'm waiting to take a left onto Harlem from Victory, that the intersection really could use a stop light. Since the demolition of the Bauer Parkway Bridge toll, this road has gotten much busier and people crossing over the Rock River tend to do so at very high speeds.

That's why, according to WIFR, the Village of Machesney Park have decided to put a stoplight there, the hope is to have it up by 2017.
