A 31-year-old woman was attacked by an unknown assailant who according to Rockford Police hid in the woman's backseat and then attempted to strangle her.

The unnamed victim says the horrifying experience happened near the intersection of Mulford and Newburg Roads.

After the man sprang from the backseat, the frightened woman lost control of her car and hit a snow bank, before finally stopping in a parking lot at the 900 block of South Mulford.

The suspect ran out of her car after the victim came to a full stop. Rockford Police say the woman wasn't robbed or injured during the altercation.
