The Rock River Valley was brutalized by the hail that dropped on May 15, 2017 and the pictures and videos aren't the only proof. The cost of the damage is just a devastating as the photo above. Local contractors estimate the cost from hail damage throughout northern Illinois is around $30 million, according to WIFR.

Rockford's CBS affiliate spoke with Rob Ebany of Bufalo Contracting and he explained why so many roofs were damaged even though the appeared to be unharmed.

This storm didn’t have very heavy winds, so the hail fell straight down, meaning much of the damage to roofs was concentrated at the very top of roofs. That’s why it’s often hard to miss. He says it’s also often very small and hard spot.

As for necessary repairs Rob Ebany advised homeowners to be cautious about the contractor they hire, similar to the article on Q985online.com highlighting the Illinois Attorney General's press release warning of possible scams related to storm damage repair.
