Summer has arrived and so have the long family road trips.

A new study shows it's probably best to get your gas for the weekend trip earlier in the week than later.

The study did show that the date does vary from year to year, but according to GasBuddy filling up in 2017 on Monday "can result in savings for many motorists, along with price shopping for the lowest price."

GasBuddy also says "if every U.S. motorist bought gasoline on Thursday for an entire year, they’d collectively spend an extra $1.1 billion versus filling up on Monday."

Before you decide to drive on E all weekend just hold off until Monday keep in mind Sunday and Tuesday are good options too.

The worst days to fill up are Thursday and Saturday. Remember, it's only merely pennies per gallon but after a year of overpaying for gas, that could be the difference between you and a new pair of shoes.

And who doesn't want a new pair of shoes?
