Northern Illinois University is offering an honors course on the most popular show on television.

If you needed an excuse to go back to school, let this be it. NIU is offering a class that's finally worth waking up for - "Game of Thrones, Television and Medieval History."

Whether you watch the show or not, this course is a true history class that's meant to give you some insight into a true representation of the Middle Ages. Professor Valerie Garver says,

"It represents aspects of the Middle Ages much more realistically than other media depictions that purport to be more accurate," she said. "It stands out because it comments on the human condition in a way that seems real to people. It's a really good example of a piece of modern culture that draws on how the past impacts the present."

The class syllabus includes watching the show, reading the books and learning how the show relates to current events. Sign. me. up.

Too bad the class is filled already. Be jealous of twenty students who get college credit for watching the greatest TV show of all time. Even though I watch the show religiously, I would love to learn more about the time period, geography and the history of the characters of the show. Maybe next spring? NIU will be offering the course again, which means you've got plenty of time to get in your application and enroll.
