By now, you've seen or heard the news that a 17-year-old gorilla named Harambe was shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo after a 4-year-old boy fell into it's habitat. It's a sad situation for everyone involved and it's hard for any of us to take sides because we weren't there.

No matter what your stance is on the issue, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. WGN TV shared a video from their archives, reminding us of an incident that happened at the Brookfield Zoo in which an 3-year-old boy fell an astonishing 20 feet into an ape pit, where 8-year-old gorilla, Binti Jua, cradled the boy and carried him to safety.

Thankfully, this scenario had a different outcome; the little boy spent four days in the hospital and Binti Jua survived; becoming an international sensation. 20 years later, she still resides at the Brookfield Zoo.

These accidents seem to have some similarities and differences that could've changed the outcome at the Cincinnati Zoo but what's done is done and hopefully this will be a learning opportunity for parents bringing their children to the zoo and those responsible for taking care of zoo animals.
