Plans for an affordable housing development on Rockford's East side appear to have been shelved, at least for the moment.

According to our partners at Eyewitness News, Gorman Inc. has withdrawn its controversial proposal to build on South New Towne Road:

In a statement, the city said, "The City of Rockford has received and accepted a letter of withdrawal for Gorman & Company’s planned unit development (PUD) application on New Towne Drive.

Gorman indicated in its letter that they “have heard feedback from many Rockford residents regarding concerns and questions over the proposed New Towne development” and will be taking some time to “thoughtfully reassess, re-evaluate and revise” the proposal. Gorman’s options may include a resubmittal of an application to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) or a reconfiguration of the proposal to comply with current City zoning codes and regulations.

 

Eyewitness News reports the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting scheduled July 28 at Heartland Church has been canceled.
