Rockford Doc ‘Minding The Gap’ One Step Closer To Oscar Nom

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced shortlists for Oscar gold on Monday.

Some heavy hitters were left off the list, including Michael Moore who's Fahrenheit 11/9 documentary won't be up for Oscar, neither will Rashida Jones' doc about her father Quincy Jones, aptly titled Quincy. Amazing Grace, a documentary about the recently departed Aretha Franklin didn't make the cut either

You know what did? Minding The Gap. The Rockford based documentary is practically a shoo-in for a Best Documentary nomination as Bing Liu's critically acclaimed film made it on the Academy's shortlist.

The Academy will make the official announcement for all nominees on Tuesday, January 22.
