A Rockford family had a scary moment on Easter Sunday and need your help finding the person responsible.

It seemed like a normal afternoon for a Rockford family going about their Sunday afternoon when the day would take a scary turn. A car would t-bone them causing their vehicle to spin out of control, crossing a median, and stopping in the line of on-coming traffic. The drama didn't end there, the other vehicle sped away.

Shelly Colletti Apreda told me she was riding passenger when her husband spotted an erratic driver swerve around a vehicle, run the red light at Mulford and Spring Creek Roads, and hit their car. That's when he tried to maneuver their car in attempt to keep everyone inside safe. Her daughter Annetta was not in the car but said this,

Thankfully my brother ducked down and my step dad was able to swerve enough to make it hit his door more than my brothers. The guy is still out there. I'm just glad no one was seriously hurt.

After checking to make sure his wife and child were safe Nestor followed the vehicle to try and get the license number but was unable as the hit-and-run vehicle ran multiple red lights. They were able to get pictures of the vehicle and a blurry picture of the license plates before calling Rockford Police.

Shelly Colletti Apreda told me the police said the driver may have traveling 50-60 miles per hour and they're lucky nobody was hurt. The vehicle is a maroon Chevrolet HHR with wood paneling with possible visible damage to the driver's side headlight and the front bumper/panel. You can see a large scale photo of the license plate here.

Anyone that recognizes this vehicle or may have witnessed this accident is encouraged to call Nestor Apreda at (815)703-8783 or Rockford Police's non-emergency line.
