It doesn't matter if it's an inch of snow or 37 inches if property owners don't maintain their properties. City officials have issued a friendly reminder of what must be done after snow accumulation. The reminder comes after many complaints to RAMP, which serves as an advocate for people with disabilities.

In an interview with a local news station, a City of Rockford official said property owners (of homes and businesses) must clear snow and ice from all sidewalks around their property.

If they don’t do it by noon the day after the snow stops falling, they face a fine up to $750.

RAMP told the same tv station a group volunteers took it upon themselves to make sure paths were clear "so people with disabilities could pass through."

The requirement is an official city ordinance and includes public sidewalks along all personal and business property, according to Sec. 26.10.

The owner or occupier of each lot or part of lot, improved or unimproved, to which the general public is invited, shall remove all snow and ice which may have fallen or accumulated upon the sidewalk in front of the premises which he or she owns or occupies not later than 12:00 noon of the day after the same has ceased to fall or accumulate.

Rockford weather outlets are reporting frigid temperatures and snow accululation this weekend.
