Kids in the Rockford School District may have to find a new way to get to school soon, temporarily anyway.

A strike has been approved by the union that supplies the Rockford School bus drivers, according to mystateline.com.

The drivers are asking for fair wages and affordable healthcare. The current average salary is $16,181. Their past contract expired on June 30th and they have not been able to reach an agreement with the district ever since. No strike date has been set. The next meeting for negotiations is on Thursday, November 10th. The Rockford bus system is responsible for transporting approximately 18,000 students to and from school every day. Many of these children have no other means of transportation and may not be able to go to school if the strike actually happens.

Let's all say a prayer that an agreement can be reached and this strike will be avoided.
