As new doors are opening downtown, another one has closed; this time it's to one of my favorite diners in Rockford.

According to the Rockford Register Star, Sienna's Kitchen has suddenly closed.

The eatery, which had delicious paninis, salads, gourmet desserts and all those fun; eclectic tidbits and gifts that you just love to taste and smell, cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for closing.

There's been an outpouring of support and sadness and it's understandable. Sienna's was one of the first spots in Rockford that Jason and I would go for lunch dates and post-workout meals. He always got the Suzy Q panini and I always got the strawberry salad with the balsamic dressing on the side; we ate there so much that after a while they didn't even have to ask us what we wanted, they just remembered.

That's the kind of people Joe and Sue were; they always greeted you with a smile, remembered your name and asked about you when you weren't there. Rockford businesses could use a lot more of that. They will surely be missed.
