It doesn't matter if you're driving fast, slow, or doing the speed limit, you're not allowed to drive in the left lane in Illinois except to pass.

I get frustrated driving when somebody is driving slow in the left lane on the highways.

It usually leads to a rant about there should be a law against it. Well, apparently, there already is one.

According to the Illinois State Police Facebook page...

"Illinois law requires while traveling on an interstate you are to stay out of the left lane except when overtaking or passing another vehicle or moving over for a vehicle on the shoulder. This law does not apply to authorized emergency vehicles while engaged in official duties. In short, if you're getting passed on the right, you're wrong."

After I saw this post, I thought to myself that this must be new. Nope, it's been a state law since 2004.

I wonder if I ever get pulled over for that violation, I can say I was just passing... everyone. I have a sneaking suspicion it wouldn't work.

Did you know about this law?
