Teacher Of The Week: Mr. Smetana From Welsh Elementary

Congratulations to our newest Teacher Of The Week, Mr. Smetana from Welsh Elementary School in Rockford.

Mr. Smetana scored beautiful flowers from Broadway Florist and an amazing cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes, our brand new ‘Teacher of the Week’ partner.

The winning nomination came from Tasha Frame, Tasha writes:

My son Myles has Autism and it has been a hard journey for him to get where he is today.

Peter Smetana is a Special Education teacher and has been with my son for the last 4 years. I don't think that my son would be succeeding as much as he is if it wasn't for Peter going above and beyond for my son. Even though Myles would have fits of rage and would hit, kick scream etc. Peter never gave up helping Myles. Even though Myles has a para all day Peter was helping Myles learn how to get himself calm and get work done and have fun.

Myles gets sad every year when school ends saying, "I love Mr. S." He knows it will be a bit before he will see him again. I think the world of Mr. Smetana for everything he does for every child. We need more teachers like him in our schools.
