Congratulations to our latest Teacher of the Week, Ms. Schelling from Guilford High School.

Ms. Schelling scored delicious cupcakes from Sugar Jones and beautiful flowers from Broadway Florist.

The winning submission came from Tana Lee. Tana tells us:

My name is Tana and I have a son with special needs. Joshua heard the announcement on the radio about teacher of the week and has been asking me for months to give his teacher a "prize"...what he means is he wants her to be the teacher of the week.

It's hard to even know where to start when describing the type of teacher Kim is. Kim teaches the life skills program at Guilford High School. Kim has kids ranging in age from 14-22 with a multitude of disabilities that are both physical and mental. Kim has the patience of no one I have ever met, I know what it is like to deal with one child with special needs...I can't imagine handling multiple children with special needs...all of them having different ailments and needs. Kim is not just a teacher...Kim is our children’s mom, nurse, nurturer and caregiver every day of the week. Kim is the voice for our children who do not have voices that can be heard or understood. Kim fights to keep the programs and opportunities for our kids alive when everyone else wants to cut programs. Kim attends our kid’s birthday parties, special Olympic events, graduations. She visits them when they are in the hospital and does it all of her free will during her off hours. Kim is active in all our children’s lives and loves each one of them as if they were her own.

She is dedicated, caring and fights for our children every single day to make sure that they are given the same opportunities as any other child would have. This is only a fraction of things that describe Kim and if Joshua could put it all into words I know he would have even more to say."
