It's hard enough to prepare for those three day weekends we all love so much; from answering all those emails and tying up lose ends at the office to booking hotels, reserving cabins, packing and getting two kids, one spouse and the dog all in the car in a timely manner; now you've got to throw in millions of other Illinois families that are all trying to do the same thing and at the exact same time. At least that's how you feel about it once you finally hit the road, that thought of, "of course everyone wants to skip town at the same time I do." The struggle is real.

But perhaps this information will make it a little bit easier and give you a jump start to your much deserved three or four day weekend.

According to a recent study that looked at Memorial Day traffic, the worst time to get on the road is Friday between 3:00 and 4:00 P.M. However, it's actually better to wait until Friday to get out of dodge.

The absolute worst day to leave for your three day vacay is actually Thursday; which also just happens to be the worst travel day of the year, followed by Wednesday.

To get to your destination in a timely and sanity-sustaining manner, the best time is to leave on any of those days before 6 A.M., between 11:00-1:00 P.M and after 8 P.M.

Just remember to take your time and be safe.
