There’s A Group That Wants To Change When We Celebrate Halloween

Do you care what day Halloween falls on?

For one group they do. They've set a movement in motion to change when we celebrate the day.

ABC7 shares that there's a group that's "pushing for change [to] make the holiday more accessible -- and safe -- for everybody" by making Halloween like a floating holiday.

The non-profit group, Halloween and Costume Association, is pushing their Saturday Halloween Movement to "reschedule Halloween to the last Saturday every year, regardless of which day of the week October 31 ends up falling on."

They're already petitioning President Trump to move the holiday stating that it will not only be safe for kids and parents but also convenient to move it to a Saturday.

The HCA, says that if it's moved to a Saturday then festivities, parties, and even trick or treating can take place "earlier in the day when it's lighter out and safer for kids to be walking through their neighborhoods."

Plus, "the association also cited one major practical reason for moving the holiday: a weekend observance would give revelers more time during the day to celebrate as families wouldn't have to rush to get the party started after school and work during a weekday."

They're reasoning for making it a type of floating holiday is based on how we move Labor Day, Memorial Day and Thanksgiving around every year. So why not do the same with Halloween?

Well, that's a pretty valid reasoning per say.

One reason Halloween has always been on October 31st is that it's "origins are rooted in various Celtic, Pagan and Christian observances recognizing the end of summer and the change in seasons." This is according to what's been state by the Library of Congress.

So what do you think? Is this change necessary? Should it be signed into a law?

I'm kind of on the fence about it.

I get it but at the same time, it's like why change it now? We've been celebrating Halloween on the October 31st forever, just leave it alone.
