Video captured the moment three cars were almost struck by a Metra train in Northern Illinois.

This is the reason why you should always check your surroundings when you cross a railroad track. In this case, the signals malfunctioned and gave drivers no warning whatsoever.

The video was taken by a Mokena police officer. In the dash-cam video, you can see the scary near death moment. The oncoming train (look to the left) can be seen near the end of the video. The railroad gates and warning lights activated AFTER the train crossed the intersection.

Peter Stanglewicz, who took the video and posted it to social media, said:

Throughout my life, I've had very little luck. I've bought tons of raffle tickets, from little league tickets to charity raffles. Every lottery ticket was a loser. I just thought I wasn't born with luck at all. Little did I know, I had luck, I was just saving it all up for the perfect time. Here is all my luck being used ALL AT ONCE. If I never win anything again, I'm perfectly fine with that.

The Chicago Tribune reports the incident took place on Nov 9th at 191st Street and the Rock Island District line.

Lesson learned! Don't trust crossing gates and always be alert.
