Belvidere North High School parents are on edge this week after learning that a student contracted a potentially serious infectious disease.

According to WREX, that disease is tuberculosis; a "contagious disease that is transmitted from person to person through the air."

What's got parents concerned is all that needs to happen for you to get infected is to share the same airspace with the infected patient. Without knowing exactly who that is, even if you paid a visit to the school for let's say, a sporting event, there's a chance you could've been exposed.

The school and the Boone County Health Department have sent letters to parents, recommending that they get a TB skin test if they came in contact with the infected student.

Tests can be done on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1204 Logan Ave. Make an appointment by calling 815-544-9730.
