Until today, we never heard about why the character, Susan, was killed off. In a recent interview, Jason Alexander, who played George, said that they killed Susan off because he couldn't work with her comedic timing.

He mentioned how bad he felt about it, and that she was a super nice person, but that they just didn't mesh well. Also, apparently it was Julia Louis-Dreyfus' idea to kill her off.

That episode is still why I can't lick envelopes. Thank God for moms and stickers.
