Tis the season for giving and the entire Stateline area can get on board.

As temperatures dropped over the weekend, it got very chilly. This was a rude awakening seeing as how we just had temps in the 60's and 70's a few weeks ago. The abrupt cold weather inspired a couple local groups to give from the heart. They wanted to help keep our city warm by making warm and cozy donations to people in need.

Chase the Chill, a volunteer organization, made hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves and lined Main Street in downtown Rockford with them for anyone who needed them, according to mystateline.com . They left them for anyone to take with special tags letting them know who they were from.

Swedish American Hospital's Sunshine committee did something similar. They filled 75 bags with warm goodies and hung them on the fence surrounding the hospital. The bags were filled with hats, scarves, gloves, and socks. Some students close by at Lincoln Middle School were very happy on a cold morning finding these to keep them warm while they stood outside.

Several other area churches and organizations are also collecting items like these to donate to local charities if you would like to help out. Don't forget in the hustle of the season, when you are out buying gifts for your loved ones, to also keep in mind those families who aren't able to even keep themselves warm this Winter.

Pay. It. Forward.
