The West Nile Virus has been creeping its way towards northern Illinois. It now can check another county off its list.

WREX - A mosquito pool in Boon County tests positive for West Nile Virus, which is the first positive rest of the summer there. The mosquitoes were collected between Aug. 4 and Aug. 18 from the Belvidere, Caledonia, Capron and Poplar Grove zip codes.

It's not the first case to be found close to home. A pool of mosquitoes in Winnebago County tested positive earlier this year.

The good news is that it hasn't been transmitted to any birds or humans yet in northern Illinois. There have, however, been 4 reported cases in humans in Illinois.

The best way to protect yourself is bug spray, citronella, and long clothing. Take care of yourself. Symptoms include fever, nausea, headache and body aches. If you feel any of these after getting bit you should seek medical attention.

Stay safe out there.
