Question- when's the last time you've had a glass of water from the sink in your kitchen?

If you're anything like me, it's probably been a while. My mouth could be as dry as Gandhi's sandal and I'm still not going to tap that tap. Chances are there's wine or beer nearby...or a grocery store for me to pick up more bottles of water.

My boyfriend and I go through at least 10 or more case of water a month because we just don't want to take any risks of getting sick from local drinking water. It's mostly a taste and odor thing for us, but there's also a lot of chemicals in our drinking water that could potentially make you feel more than just hydrated.

Now we know just now much; and according to the Huffington Post, it's more than just lead and arsenic, which was found in tap water in all 50 states.

With the help of a calculator created by The Environmental Working Group, you can now enter your zip code into a database that will tell you exactly what's in your drinking water.

In Rockford you can find a total of 29 contaminants, 10 which can cause cancer.

  • 1,4-Dioxane
  • Arsenic
  • Bromodichloromethane
  • Chloroform
  • Dibromochloromethane
  • Manganese, which can harm your brain and nervous system
  • Radiological contaminants
  • Tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene)
  • Total trihalomethanes (TTHMs)
  • Trichloroacetic acid
  • Hormones
  • Testosterone

Don't be too alarmed, tough; according to the EWG, "tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards."
